For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace” Romans 8:6
Please read the above again. What comes to your mind? Have you ever asked yourself why me? Other people seem to catch all the breaks in life, but not me. I can’t seem to overcome this vice or sin in my life.
Paul the Apostle experienced many hardships in his life. He was beaten, thrown in prison, shipwrecked… and many other things. It wasn’t until his Damascus road experience that he truly found peace with God in Acts 9. The whole time before that he was trying to please God in the flesh, in his own strength, or by works. Nothing was happening and the more religious he became, the more arrogant and angry he was because he was trying to please people rather than God.
When you focus your mind on the things of the flesh it can lead to spiritual death and keep you from gaining a victory over the flesh or sin. The flesh cannot please God. Our attitude and our heart have a lot to do with walking in victory. If you struggle with addictions you will battle more than once on a daily basis. This is normal and we can’t overcome them in our own strength.
“…the mind (attitude) focused on the Spirit is life and peace”. When we acknowledge that the Lord is in control and realize we can’t do this, guess what? We begin to find the secret to success. Taking up our cross daily is where we leave the flesh, our sins, our works etc. at the foot of the cross. This is where God’s Spirit lives in and through us to help us walk an overcoming victorious life.
“… If we are living by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Rom.8:13.
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses”.
Galatians 5:16-18 NLT
The struggles in your life are real and remember you are not alone. Spend time with God alone even for a few minutes. Prayer is a powerful key in the midst of your battle and allow the Spirit of God to live in and through your life daily guiding you.
If you have a special need please feel free to post it or PM me and I will pray for you.
Have a victorious weekend my friend and believe for the impossible because the world, the flesh, and the devil, do not have much to offer except heartache and disappointment.
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
1 John 2:15-17 NIV
