Growing up as a kid we used to cut through neighbors yards to get to the park or school yard faster. Then these small black signs began to appear on fences and trees where we would cut through.
Part of the problem with these signs is that we never saw a dog or heard any barking! So we were persuaded to walk around and take the long route.
Still being a fiesty and curious kid, I would test the waters and cut through the yard. Well one day I met my match and out came the dog from the house growling and barking. Chasing me to get a nice foot or arm in it’s mouth. I ran so fast over the tall stockade fence with my baseball glove, I don’t remember how I out ran this wild dog. I was so full of fear, afraid and shaking, because I thought the sign was made up to just keep us kids out, and it worked, since there was a real dog.
Other warning signs we see such as, “no trespassing”, “do not enter”, “one way” etc.
Warnings are there for a reason not to make us afraid, but to protect us. The Bible God’s Word is for ours well being to guide us, nurture us, and protect us.
There are sins and behaviors that are warning signs and it is wise to take heed. There are many things God hates, here are seven:
“There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family”.
Proverbs 6:16-19 NLT
Another warning is when Jesus exhorts the disciples in the gospels to watch and pray. He is coming back and nobody knows the day or the hour when He will come, but He is coming back soon. You may think this is radical or some pie in the sky fable. However, God’s Word and promises are true, so we are to take heed and not ignore the warning signs.
“So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Matthew 24:33-44 NKJV
As you walk softly and sharpen your sword, walk softly this week my friend.
